Radeus Labs Releases 8250 Antenna Drive Unit with Angle and Signal Display

“Maintenance friendly” Antenna Drive Unit offers daylight readable angle and signal display.

POWAY, CA – March 27, 2018 — Radeus Labs Inc., a market leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance antenna control systems, released a new version of the 8250 Antenna Drive Unit (ADU). The 8250D builds on the quality and robust operation of the 8250 ADU with the addition of a daylight readable display that shows the antenna look angles (AZ, EL, and Pol), beacon frequency, and relative signal strength in decibels.

Andrew Correnti, Engineering Manager at Radeus Labs notes that, “Many of our customers need the look angles and signal information while they are performing maintenance on their antenna systems. Incorporating this option into our 8250D ADU just makes sense for many of our customers.”

The 8250D ADU jog panel display offers a crisp and readily visible readout of antenna look angles and signal information incorporated into the ADU jog panel. The readout is designed to be visible even in direct sunlight when most displays become unreadable. The 8250D retains the high-quality components from respected companies such as Allen Bradley® and Yaskawa® which increase the performance and reliability of the unit. The 8250D is now available, for more information or to place an order contact us at sales@radeuslabs.com today!

Radeus Labs Announces Addition of IESS-412 Capability for Flagship 8200 Antenna Control System

Additional Tracking Mode Offers a New Twist on Refresh of Data Sets

POWAY, CA – August 01, 2017 — Radeus Labs Inc., a market leader in the design and manufacture of high performance antenna control systems, announced today the addition of IESS-412 or more commonly, Intelsat 11-parameter pointing capability to the 8200 antenna control system (ACS).

The added pointing mode will allow greater flexibility for customers who use the Intelsat pointing mode and offers multiple methods for refreshing data sets, including an automatic update capability for web facing systems.

Juliet Correnti, Chief Executive Officer and co-owner of Radeus Labs noted that, “Our customers continue to push us to grow our offering and add innovative twists to tried and true methods. This creates value for our customers and simplifies their work in ways that could not have been easily done 10 or 15 years ago.”

The 8200 currently auto updates the NORAD two-line element set data on a daily basis for targets using that pointing mode. Similarly, the Intelsat pointing mode will auto-refresh data sets when the 8200 ACU has web access. Alternatively, the data sets may be updated over the internal LAN when web access is not available. A third option for uploading data sets is to utilize the USB drive located on the the front panel of the ACU.

“We have tried to make it easy for customers to maintain current pointing data in their ACUs,” states Robert Gomez, a Satcom Engineer for Radeus. “By adding ease-of-use features to the 8200, we reduce the amount time required to maintain the unit and simplify the update process for our customers,” notes Gomez.

Radeus Labs announces 4-axis antenna control capability for Model 8200 antenna control system

New Features Continue to Grow Model 8200 Antenna Control System Capabilities

Poway, CA – June 29, 2017 – Radeus Labs Inc., a market leader in the design and manufacture of high performance antenna control systems, announced today the added capability to provide a 4th-axis of control for the model 8200 antenna control system.

Ken Cone, Chief Technology Officer and co-owner of Radeus Labs stated, “Customer focus is extremely important to us as we continue to develop features and capabilities that add value to our customers. We understand their operating costs are high, so our unique design approach helps us to add features in a way that tends to reduce the overall cost of ownership to the customer.”

The 4-axis capability was developed for customers that require more complex antenna polarization configurations. The new capabilities are fully integrated into the efficient and intuitive 8200 user interface, providing more flexibility for ground station operations.

“The 8200 is a proven solution that continues to grow in its capability to meet our customers’ needs. We have strong relationships with our customers due to our responsiveness and willingness to adapt to their ever changing business climate,” says Chris Steph, Director of Sales and Marketing for Radeus. “Our customers want to do more, with less, and it is our job to provide equipment that can help them meet their business objectives” says Steph.

Radeus Labs announces the addition of extreme low temperature option for 8250 drive cabinet

Now: -55°C for Earth Station Antenna Motor Drive Cabinets

The Radeus Labs team has just completed testing on its improved Low Temperature Option for the Model 8250 Drive Cabinet. The previous rating went down to -40°C; the new improved version is now rated down to -55°C.

Multiple thermostats prevent drive cabinet electronics from powering up at unsafe temperatures. From a cold-start, the drive cabinet electronics power up after the heater has sufficiently warmed the interior.

The bottom-mounted heater/fan assembly provides quick and steady heating, expending energy only when required, and saving on electricity costs.

Low Temperature Packages are easily added after system installation, with pre-cut insulation, DIN rail-mount components, and a simple plug-in interface included for all systems.

Cabinets ordered with, or retrofitted with, the package gain the following specifications:

  • Low ambient operational temperature: -55°C (all temperatures are without wind chill)
  • Time from applied power to cabinet operation: 10 minutes (at cold start from -40°C) (Electronics will not power up until a safe internal operational temperature has been reached.)
  • Internal average temperatures
    • At -40°C ambient: 10°C
    • At -55°C ambient: 10°C

It is estimated that this package will allow much lower operational temperatures, but as of yet has only been tested down to -55°C.

Since all cabinets have a low temperature storage specification of -20°C, this package will keep the electronics safe, even when the unit is not in operation, as long as power is readily available.
